In 2025 the WANTZ Committee is involved in two philanthropic activities.
1. MND and Me Foundation
2. AEIOU Foundation
MND AND ME FOUNDATION
This year we are supporting MND and Me Foundation specifically fundraising to purchase a BiPap machine to assist people with MND.
Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) for people with MND involves the use of a BiPap machine to provide bi-level air flow that not only pushes air into a person’s lungs but also sucks the CO2 out of their lungs. This is crucial for a person as their diaphragm loses strength due to their MND.
The use of the machine in the early stages of the disease aids with fatigue management and in the later stage of the disease, people remain on them 24hrs a day to aid respiratory function.
A study that has been undertaken by researchers at The University of Melbourne and Austin Health has found the use of NIV in people with MND is 4 – 6 times more effective in slowing progression that Riluzole, the only drug available for people with MND in Australia.
MND currently provides these devices to people who can’t afford to purchase them but they have run out and desperately need to purchase some new devices. They cost $9500 including a back up battery for being taken out of the home and also in case of a blackout.
AEIOU FOUNDATION
WANTZ Committee has been asked to collaborate with AEIOU Foundation for children with autism in celebrating AEIOU’s 20 year anniversary on Saturday 21st June, 2025.
It will be a huge event with 800 -1000 people with fabulous prizes, delicious food, Craggy Range wines and spectacular entertainment.
